Whatever the Oil and Gas issue might be, I have probably dealt with it. Whether it is a farm-in or farm-out, temporary restraining orders, easements, division orders or operating agreements etc., the emphasis of my practice is and always has been Oil and Gas title work and associated client needs.
Due to the erratic nature of the oil and gas business, I have been forced to diversify my practice into other areas over the years. I represent these other areas of my practice with the same zeal, but my preference has always been and continues to be representing oil and gas companies and researching titles and rendering opinions.
My career began with corporate legal and land departments in Philips Petroleum, Philips Coal Company, Mobil Oil Company, Mobil Coal Company and Nerco Coal Company (Pacific Power and Light). These diverse corporate responsibilities took me to court houses, BLM’s and Acquisition (due-diligence)Rooms in most Western States and in the South and Midwest and as far northeast as Pennsylvania and West Virginia and as far south as Alabama.
In 1984, I made the monumental decision to start my own firm. I have been on the approved list, cleared drill sites and rendered Division Order Title Opinions for many public companies like Philips Petroleum, Mobil Oil and Chevron, and many private companies such as Kaiser Francis, Helmerich and Payne, Samson Resources, Devon Energy, et al.
I have routinely advised and directed numerous landmen with negotiating and drafting documents in order to cure defects found while examining titles. I have otherwise represented clients in the acquisition of producing properties and Units, involving both asset and corporate transfers of surface estates, mineral estates and leaseholds.
I find this work to be enjoyable and fulfilling as it integrates so many other areas of the law. Unlike large firms who often relegate title work to associates, I personally review every document in each title to render my opinion.
Experience is knowledge, and my experience has taken me to almost all producing states and areas. I am licensed and admitted to the Bar in both Texas and Oklahoma.
I have represented landowners and lessors in everything from lease negotiations, right-of-way agreements, to full management of their minerals for larger landowners; including generational ownership agreements.
